Nemesis
The Allied forces were faced with a terrible truth in late 1942: Hitler's scientists had succeeded in developing a lethal bacterial strain that could be used against frontline troops. It was confirmed in 1943 that this biological agent could be delivered through artillery shells detonated 100 feet above ground level.

Walter Browns' thrilling debut novel, Nemesis, goes inside the covert operation to destroy Germany's capacity for biological warfare. Walter Brown focuses on the gritty details, but also captures the human element of the crack team chosen for this mission, explaining that these soldiers are part men, part fighting machines.

In The Press
" Nemesis follows this crack team as they infiltrate the underground cave system in northern Germany being used to store the bacteria. Having eliminated the biological threat, the team returns to England for specialist training. Their next mission: engage in acts of sabotage - under cover of nightfall - against major German installations in anticipation of the Allied invasion of 1944. "

"Nemesis infuses action with humour and romance, but it doesn't shirk the tragedy of losing comrades in battle. Horrific accounts of personal trauma are central to Isaacs' story. As part of Operation: Nemesis, the seriously wounded cannot be returned to England for treatment because the risk is too great. Operation: Nemesis was not to be jeopardized regardless of the cost of life and limb, a fact clearly understood and accepted by all."

"Nemesis is a fascinating tribute to the men and women who bonded and suffered together in pursuit of the relief of German-occupied Europe."

" Nemesis is mainly fiction, although a majority of the events shown and personal Resistance stories told are taken from actual happenings. "

" My pen name of 'Joseph Isaacs' was chosen because my military profession was in high speed communications and the radio operator mentioned in the book is named Issacs. "

" Port Dickson is an actual place in Malaya where I served for several years and is located on the shores of the Malacca Straights where many happy hours were spent swimming. Just up the road are Segamet and Gemas where our operations in Johor Bahru began. Further on down the road before you cross the causeway into Singapore was RAF Tengah Air Base where the Lancaster and Canberra Bombers used on Air Strikes were based. Using a ground to air R209 radio I used to make contact with them and give weather conditions over the target. "

R209 Radio Set
R209-radio-set The R209 was introduced in the early 1950s as the replacement for the Army R107.

The set is completely self contained and hermetically sealed for use in wet and humid environments. Note the cover to seal the loudspeaker from moisture ingress.

The R209 is a Super-heterodyne receiver with an IF of 460kHz. It marked a new generation of radios, constructed from die-cast aluminium alloy. The case is ribbed for strength yet lightweight and completely sealed. The internal RF and IF circuits are built into plug-in modules for ease of servicing. Valves are miniature B7G types. Internal HT voltage is derived from the usual vibrator type supply, typical of the era.
